The Winter Cabin and Fool’s Gold

If you don’t know our backstory yet, we are a two‑person team: author and editor/publisher, working side by side to build Paladin Studio Production from nothing but manuscripts, determination, and the belief that stories can change lives.
We are not a corporation.
We are not a committee.
We are simply two people who met under difficult circumstances and chose to build something meaningful together.
The Winter Problem: A Van Is No Longer Viable
We have lived and worked from a van for months—writing, editing, cooking, building the Paladin universe page by page. But winter in the Pacific Northwest and Canada is not survivable for someone in Thomas’s condition.
He has experienced dizzy spells. He has blacked out twice. He needs fresh air, oxygen, warmth, and stability. He needs a real kitchen, a real bed, a real floor. He needs a place where fainting does not mean falling onto metal or concrete.
A van cannot provide that. Not in November. Not in December. Not in the deep cold that settles over Abbotsford and the mountain corridor toward Golden.
A cabin is not a luxury. It is a medical necessity.
Fool’s Gold: The Work That Must Continue
Fool’s Gold is Thomas’s primary workload now—a western trilogy of novelettes set against the migration toward the Yukon Gold Rush. The first installment is in raw draft form, requiring thirty to forty hours of editing. Those hours cannot be done in a van during winter.
A cabin gives Thomas:
A warm, stable environment to write
Oxygen and ventilation
A safe place to recover from dizzy spells
A quiet space to continue building the trilogy
A cabin gives me:
A table to edit manuscripts
A stable environment to prepare pitch materials
The ability to continue the Paladin publishing pipeline
Fool’s Gold is the creative justification. Thomas’s health is the human justification. The cabin is the bridge between the two.
Why We Are Asking for Support
We are a woman‑owned, purpose‑driven publishing studio. Our work is not only about books—it is about the Lotus Habitat Project, about homelessness, about affordability, about building a future where creativity and shelter coexist. But none of that can continue if Thomas cannot safely make it through the winter.
We are asking for support because:
Winter in a van is medically unsafe
Thomas has already experienced two blackouts.
He needs warmth, oxygen, and stability
Fool’s Gold must be completed.
Our entire publishing pipeline depends on a safe place to work.
A cabin is the only viable option for survival and creation.
This is not a retreat for leisure. This is a retreat for life, health, and the continuation of a literary legacy.
The Path Forward
We are seeking a small winter cabin—modest, insulated, quiet, and close enough to town for supplies. Golden remains our ideal location: a mountain environment with clean air, solitude, and the atmosphere Thomas needs to write. But any safe cabin in the region is a blessing.
