Reflections on the Journey
As I pen these reflections, I invite readers to join me on this exploration—a quest to understand how the very fabric of our existence is intertwined with the digital realm. Together, we will navigate the complexities of thought and technology, seeking the harmony that lies at the intersection of human experience and artificial insight.
This is what inspired me to write my book, At the Speed of My Intelligence: How AI Became the Infrastructure I Was Never Given. It began as a way to explain something that has become impossible for me to ignore.
Paladin Studio Production emerged not from the sudden influx of resources typical of a traditional publishing house, but rather from the profound impact of AI tools that have revolutionized the infrastructure available to a small, dedicated two-person team. This shift has allowed us to navigate the complexities of publishing with greater efficiency and creativity, enabling us to bring our vision to life in ways we had never imagined.
From Companion Tool to Infrastructure
Early in this process, I wrote a blog about AI serving as a companion tool. That was true then, and it is still true now. But this book has pushed me to go deeper. A companion tool helps us move through a moment. Infrastructure changes what becomes possible over time.
What began as support in the process has become part of a larger argument: AI did not make us writers, founders, or inventors. It made it possible for the writing, founding, and invention already inside us to move with enough speed, structure, and continuity to become visible.
Paladin Studio Was Built by Two People — Not a Hidden Machine
In a conventional model, a publishing studio requires departments: editorial development, copyediting, layout, metadata, marketing, communications, launch planning, research, operations, and long-range strategy. Each function usually belongs to a different person, and every person costs money, time, and coordination. For a small independent studio, that reality can turn a clear vision into an unfinished folder. The gap is rarely imagination. The gap is execution capacity.
The False Accusation Came Before the AI Tools
That distinction matters because people have already misunderstood our work. We were accused of using AI to write our first eight published books, even though I did not know at the time that AI could help me edit and revise at this level. I didn't even know AI existed to write books.
Those early books were released without AI editing tools. We used AI only for book-cover design. The writing was entirely our own, rooted in years of lived experience, handwritten drafts, developed concepts, and work that existed before this current AI moment.
People thought I was a tech expert secretly employing advanced tools, but I wasn't. Although I no longer possess the college papers that demonstrated my writing skills while achieving GPAs of 3.8 and 3.9, JR still retains the most tangible proof of his authorship: handwritten manuscripts.
We were both writers before AI became part of the conversation. We each had bodies of work, distinct voices, frameworks, and creative authority before these tools existed.
Why I Began Using AI More Seriously
I began using AI more recently because I wanted to revise JR’s early editions and elevate his books for the level of possibility I could see in them, including film adaptation. This distinction is vital. AI did not create our abilities. It did not give us our stories. It did not invent our imagination, discipline, history, or voice.
What AI gave us was speed, organization, deeper revision, and a way to place ourselves on a more equal playing field with people who have always had access to privilege, money, power, wealth, professional teams, and institutional support.
What AI Makes Possible for a Two-Person Team
AI tools changed the equation. They gave us responsive support for research, structure, editing passes, workflow planning, market positioning, author communications, and production thinking. The work still requires human authority. It requires taste. It requires discernment. It requires someone who knows what the book is, what the studio stands for, and where quality cannot be compromised. But with AI, one person can direct a level of organized support that once required an entire staff. A two-person team can begin to function with the operational reach of a much larger studio.
Without AI tools, I would not have been able to move at this speed. Paladin Studio would still be possible as an idea, but not in this form, not on this timeline, and not with this much already in motion. Alongside building the studio, I have three of my own books moving through development. Frameworks that lived in my mind for years are finally becoming manuscripts, publishing plans, and reader-facing products.
I also have inventions mapped out that are ahead of the technology currently available to build them. That is not exaggeration. It is the experience of a mind that has been generating faster than the surrounding infrastructure could receive.
Infrastructure, Not Shortcut
This is what I mean when I say AI is infrastructure, not shortcut. A shortcut bypasses the work. Infrastructure lets the work become real. It gives form to the intelligence that was already there.
For under-resourced creators, founders, and small teams, that difference is everything. The question is no longer whether the idea is too large for the team. The better question is whether the team now has tools strong enough to meet the idea.
Why the Book Matters
That is why At the Speed of My Intelligence matters. It is not only a book about AI. It is a book about people like me — people who have been underestimated, undermined, delayed, and misread, not because we lacked intelligence, but because we lacked the resources, the team, the support, and the illusion of power that wealth so often provides.
Money does not always make people more capable. Sometimes it simply makes them look more confident, more competent, and more prepared because an entire structure is working behind them. AI gives under-resourced people a way to build some of that structure for ourselves. It does not make us smarter. It gives our intelligence somewhere to go.

My journey with AI is a testament to the evolving nature of creativity. It prompts us to embrace technology as a partner in our artistic endeavors while remaining grounded in the understanding that our true strengths lie within us. AI may enhance our capabilities, but it is our imagination and dedication that ultimately shape our stories.
